The Best Way Of Learning A Foreign Language 1Most people would agree on the advantages and attraction of learning a foreign language in
today's society. But what is the best, most effective way to do it? Here there is less
consensus. And as technology has developed, so have the methods for learning a new language,
and opinion on the best way to learn a language is as divided as ever.
If you grew up in the 70s or 80s it is likely that you have been studying a second language
at least since you were in high school. Studying is the significant word here, because most
likely at the time, you would protest about the fact that, after all those hours of study,
in the end you could not use the language at ll. Well this was not your fault. It was the result of a traditional attitude to language
teaching with a huge importance placed on grammar. At the time, it was believed that the
grammatical rules of a language were its most valuable aspect. As a result, students were
obliged to remember hundreds of verb tenses and word lists. But they were never actually
trained to use the language. |
